My Fairly Fabulous New Year's Resolutions 2016

Wednesday, January 06, 2016

Hey guys!

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and that you enjoyed every minute of it. I had a very lazy, comfy Christmas at home with my family, and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way!

Anyways, Happy New Year!!! I know I'm a few days late but, I thought I'd write out my resolutions for the year ahead. I have a feeling 2016 is going to be my year!

To be honest, I'm glad 2015 is over. I'm not going to get into it, but the first half of the year wasn't great. But on the other hand, it was also the year I graduated from the University of Limerick, and started my Postgrad in Television Production, which I'm delighted I decided to do. I've gained so much and met some lovely, genuine people in Nemeton.

I learned a lot of lessons in 2015, some the hard way. 2015 was the year I finally started to stand up for myself, and stop being a doormat for people to walk all over.

2015 was also the year I started my blog! I've gained so much confidence since doing so. No looking back!

And while the good times eclipsed the bad, I'm still happy to be leaving 2015 in the past!

2016 will be the year I graduate from college (again), and while I haven't decided whether or not to go ahead with more college or dive straight into scary adulthood and start my career, I'm looking forward to a bright future ahead of me!

So here are a few of the Resolutions I've made (and fingers crossed I will keep... most of the time) for 2016!

1. Confidence is key!

I had a few wakeup calls in 2015 that forced me to stand up for myself in a way that I never had to before. Instead of letting stuff effect me in ways that they would have previously, I made the conscious decision to stand up for myself and put myself as number one.

I was always a people pleaser, I still can be, but I've started to think about myself more. My aim for 2016 is to look after myself first and to be a bit selfish. To not sacrifice myself or bend over backwards for people who wouldn't do the same for me. I'm worth more than that.

One of the things I learned in 2015 is that not everyone cares about the effect their actions have on other people. While that can be upsetting, that's their problem. I refuse to allow people to make it mine, to mess with my emotions and make me feel inferior.

2016 is going to be the year that I try to stop caring about what people think about me. While this will be hard because I'm a quite sensitive person, I'm determined. It takes up so much time and energy, stressing and worrying about the opinions of people who mean nothing to you. I've had enough anxiety. I'm done. Bye.

This is me. This is who I am. Take it or leave it. Whatever.

2. Figure out my life!

As I mentioned above, I'll be graduating from my postgrad this year, and I'm still unsure of what I want to do when I'm finished with that.

I know that ultimately I want to work in the television industry, but right now I'm deliberating between doing a masters in Journalism or diving headfirst into job hunting.

Then there's the voice in the back of my head telling me to drop everything and travel the world for a year. I wish I could, more than you know! I want to see the world and what better time than when you're young?! It seems like the perfect time to jet off; I haven't started my career or a family, and I don't have any proper adult responsibilities yet. What better time than now? Will I be able to do it after I start a career? That's the thing, I don't think so.

I'd love nothing more than to travel and see all the wonders of the world, but it feels kind of irresponsible in a way to drop everything and put my career on hold. But then again I'm only 22. I have my whole life ahead of me to work! I'm so conflicted!!!

I'll have to crack out the ol' Pros and Cons list!

3. Get Fit! And Stay Fit!

Such an unoriginal New Years resolution! But seriously, it's time to get back on track!

For the past year or so I haven't been doing much exercise, due to health issues and being so busy and stressed with college.

While I'm naturally a size 8 (I went up to a small size 10 for a month or two while I wasn't well), and some people tell me to stop complaining that I should feel grateful that I'm naturally slim, I'm not happy with my level of fitness. I feel like it's a very personal thing and it's all relative to the individual. One person's ideal for THEIR OWN BODY SHAPE is their own business.

I've gone a bit soft so want to tone up and get fit. I used to be very fit. I did athletics, Ballet and various other dance for years; but life got in the way and I've been inactive for years.

But I've finally got everything somewhat under control health-wise so it's time for me to get back into it!

Now I've just got to find that elusive motivation... And stop eating so much chocolate...

4. To infinity and beyond!

I started my blog in 2015, and I'm blown away by the response I've received so far. The support I've received from my friends and family has been fantastic.

I really want to take my blog even further this year, expanding my readership and following. I've finally gotten a really good camera, so expect a lot more fashion on the blog!

I'm also looking forward to overhauling the look of my blog. I did some web design in college so I'm going to try and design a website for myself that looks the exact way I want it to. You mightn't have noticed but I create a lot of the content on Fairly Fabulous myself, such as the picture quote above. I love design so I'm looking forward to doing more in the year ahead!

I'll be setting various goals over the coming year for the blog, and hopefully I'll achieve them all!

I've found such a supportive group of girls in Waterford, girls who also have blogs, whether they be beauty, fashion, mummy or lifestyle related (sorry if I've left any topics out!). It's so nice to talk to like-mided people, who understand your way of thinking. I've discovered some fab blogs that I love reading from this group! The #DeiseBloggers really are the best! I look forward to seeing what 2016 brings to each and every one of our blogs!

  4. I'm glad you are sharing your goals with the world! I wanted to offer a piece of advice. Perhaps get fit and stay fit should be separate goals. Getting fit is already a challenge in and of itself and staying fit is something that takes a tremendous amount of will power and motivation. Oh, and good luck with that website!
